Hypnosis is a natural state of deep physical and mental relaxation. In this state your subconscious opens and accepts positive suggestions and imagery.

 

In a state of hypnosis you are aware of your surroundings but feel so relaxed that the usual distractions seem to fade away. You are always in control and accept only the suggestions which are beneficial for you. You do remember what you have said and done while in trance.

What Happens During a Session?

  • The first session is an hour and a half.

  • You are asked to fill out a personal information form and sign the state required disclosure. I will email it to you ahead to time so that we can concentrate on your goal when you come in.

  • During the intake I take a brief personal medical history, talk in depth about the issue you’d like to resolve and I ask questions about your life so that I have a better idea of how to work with you.

  • We set a goal for this session.

  • I dispel the basic myths that people believe.

  • I go over the five physiological signs that you’re in a hypnotic trance.

  • We discuss Neurotherapy and how you can benefit (there’s no extra charge)

  • Once you are comfortable and all your questions have been answered we begin the trance itself.

  • After the trance is complete, we talk about your experience, I give you feedback and you can ask more questions.

  • I will teach you self help techniques that they can use between sessions.

  • I do all of the trance work. Some hypnotherapists use a prerecorded tape, sometimes of someone else’s voice, to do the induction.

  • I am often asked, "How many sessions will I need?" It depends on you, what you came to work on and how responsive you are to hypnosis. Most clients come for an average of 3-6 sessions.

  • I like to do the follow up in a week and after that we meet every other week. Follow up sessions are one hour. We check in, review what worked, what did not work, if anything, set a new goal and then begin the trance for that session.

  • Following trance most of my clients feel an incredible sense of relaxation. They feel energized and refreshed. Some even say, after I bring them back, that they liked the feeling so much that they want to stay in that state of relaxation.

Skype Sessions

If you're not in the area or able to travel we might be able to set up your appointment via Skype. You can download Skype free at www.skype.com but I do recommend that you have a webcam. Once your appointment is scheduled, use the Pay for Services (under Services) button and pay via PayPal. Skype sessions must be pre-paid.

Please note: There can be some hesitations in voice and picture with Skype sessions. However, the overall quality is very reliable. When scheduling a Skype session in your home or office please ensure that you have a quiet environment and won't be disturbed. If there are any interruptions in your environment that necessitate ending the session early you will still be responsible for payment.

1. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Hypnosis

 

Conventional medical treatment alone has been inadequate in alleviating IBS symptoms for millions of people. However, hypnotherapy combined with conventional medical treatment produces dramatic symptom reduction and alleviation.

Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for, but an adjunct to, conventional medical and psychological treatment.

2. Fibro... What?

 

Fibromyalgia (FMS) is a frustrating and little-understood illness.  It is called an illness rather than a disease because there is no specific diagnostic test that confirms or denies its existence. It is a collection of confusing symptoms which come and go and vary in intensity. Its chief characteristic is widespread pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, stiffness, fatigue and non-restorative sleep. While it is not life-threatening, it can be as debilitating as rheumatoid arthritis. It is an illness that frustrates physicians as much as it does the patient. 

FMS is a collection of symptoms without a known cause. It affects 5-10% of the population, affecting eight times more women than men and it strikes all ages. It is often found in the company of other related conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), spastic bladder (urge incontinence), headaches, myofacial pain (such as TMJ), mistral valve prolapse and chronic fatigue. 

The classical diagnosis for FMS is pain in all four quadrants of the body that lasts longer than three months and 11 of 18 tender pressure points. Although the cause remains elusive, there are many common triggering events thought to precipitate the onset of the illness. These are an infection (viral or bacterial), an automobile accident or the development of another disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or hypothyroidism. 

Traditional treatments aim at improving the quality of sleep and reducing pain. Recent research confirms that a multi disciplinary approach to treating FMS provides the greatest relief from symptoms and the best prognosis. This approach includes improving the quality of sleep, proper nutrition, physical conditioning, deep relaxation and positive mental imagery. No one modality has proven effective more than 40% of the time. However, by combining therapies, the patient can frequently return to a healthier state and a more active lifestyle. 

 

How Hypnosis Can Help with FMS

Our program for FMS symptom alleviation is non-invasive and is designed to be used in conjunction with your physicians treatment regime. In one study published in the Journal of Rheumatology, 40 Fibromyalgia patients were randomly assigned to treatment with either hypnotherapy or physical therapy for 12 weeks and followed up at 24 weeks. the patients in the hypnotherapy group showed a significantly better outcome with respect to pain reduction, fatigue on awakening, sleep patterns and global assessment at 12 and 24 weeks. In addition, those patients treated with hypnotherapy showed a significant improvement in their overall levels of discomfort. The authors concluded that hypnotherapy was effective in relieving the symptoms of Fibromyalgia.
