Astrological Effects |
|
As you can see I am adding a
monthly article on Astrology. I have been a
student of astrology for many years. When I was
in my 30s I read Linda Goodman's Sun Signs and
wondered if she and I had met. Because I didn't
know how else she could describe me so
accurately in her book. Then, during my
hypnotherapy training, I met Martha Armstrong, a
professional astrologer. Since then I have had
her read my updated (progressed) chart twice a
year. And I have studied astrology through the
books she's recommended and in classes. It helps
me understand not only myself but also those
around me once I have their birth information.
Now, in my private practice, I always have
access to my clients' date of birth. So, at the
very least, I know their sun sign and their moon
sign. It's very helpful in establishing rapport
and getting acquainted with them. For example, I
worked just recently with a delightful woman who
laughs easily and is a joy to work with. I
discovered -- to no surprise -- that she has sun
and moon in Sagittarius. And Sags are the most
fun people in the zodiac. She is a registered
nurse and brings her easy laughter to her
patients. What a blessing she must be to them.
Astrology also helped me to understand my
children while they were growing up. Knowing
their strengths helped me to encourage them in
those areas. In my own life it has helped me to
move in directions that I might not have
otherwise considered. I can still hear Martha
telling me years ago that I have the chart of a
writer and then asking, "Do you write?" I was
just full of excuses and explanations. She cut
through it all with, "So start." Just write, she
told me. Don't worry about sentence structure,
punctuation, spelling... just write for 10
minutes every day. Well, folks, as many of you
know, I have written and published 15 books to
date. Or is it 16... I"m too busy writing to
keep count. (even with my Virgo nature)

read a few books, become informed. It's
fascinating and extremely helpful in the arena
of helping others as well as self-help. |

This month the Full Moon falls on January 22 in
the sign of Leo. When the Moon becomes full each
month it brings things to light creating a big
"ah ha!" As it will be shining in the sign of
Leo we are looking at (lighting up) things that
we love, what we create -- art and children --
whom we love.
With every new year comes promises, hopes dreams
and wishes. This new year has gotten off to a
slow start with the planet Mars in retrograde
motion. In Astro lingo this means that from our
perspective here on Earth, Mars appears to be
rotating backward.
So what does this mean? Since Astrology is a
(very old) child of Mythology, every planet is
related to a "god." Mars is the planet that gets
us going: it's our physcial energy, ego and so
on. In mid-November he decided he needed a
little rest from pushing all of us humans to do
this and that so he slowed, stopped in his
rotation and started turining backward in the
sign of Cancer... just in time for the holidays
and the oncoming New Year. We all have Cancer in
a Natal chart somewhere, but generically it is
the ruler of home, family, mother and emotions.
Hopefully, we were reassessing traditions
through the holidays, even though we may have
been feeling a little sluggish.
During the retrograde anything that you try to
get off the ground seems to trip you up. On
January 30th, 2008, Mars will show to a stop and
begin to start rotating forward. Hopefully, we
will start to get a few bees in our bonnet and
finish up any unfinished projects. This is a
very good time to start an exercise program at
your local gym, yoga studio, get outdoors and
walk or to clean your home. This only happens
about every two years so take advantage of it!
The New Moon on February 6 will be in the sign
of Aquarius, bringing with her New Beginnings.
The New Moon is always a great time to start new
things. A new moon in Aquarius looks at your
hopes, dreams, wishes and joining groups that
you have been avoiding.
