Releasing the Past |

I
am working with two clients right now who were severely
abused as children. Understandably, neither of them
wishes to relive their traumatic childhoods experiences.
This is certainly one of the benefits of hypnotherapy.
It just isn't necessary. Since the subconscious doesn't
know the difference between its perception of the event
and the new imagine experience, healing can be achieved
without revisiting the trauma.
"Roxie" described a feeling of fear that lives in her
solar plexus almost all the time. Once in awhile she has
a glimpse of peace and feeling comfortable in her own
skin but it doesn't last long. And, although she has a
wonderful life now, she fears everything and worries
constantly. In her first session I helped her to connect
to a feeling of inner peace. We all have that deep
inside somewhere. At times, it can become so deeply
buried that we lose touch with it. It's as if it never
existed. But it is there, waiting to be brought to the
surface. The feeling of peace that Roxie recovered
stayed with her for a full week between appointments.
During her second session we had a dialog with the
symbol of the fear: a metal ball with spikes. Even
though it was there to protect her, she wanted to send
it away. But as she was doing that she became very
emotional. After all, this "part" of her had been with
her for 30 years. So she transformed it into a soft,
cuddly blanket that brought her comfort. And, once
again, here is the magic of the mind. After 18 years in
this profession I am still in awe at how easily we can
imagine ourselves into a new reality.
